Sources & permissions
Your music can live in more than one place. You choose what MusicX connects to.
Music folders and sync are different
A music source is a folder or service containing your audio files. You can add multiple sources to a library. A preferred playback source tells MusicX which available copy to favor; it is not a switch that removes the other sources.
A sync point holds MusicX information such as library state, playlists, your queue, and your last playback position. Devices need access to the same configured sync point to share that state. Syncing this information does not automatically upload your music files.
You can use local music without connecting a cloud account. Connected features depend on your platform, permissions, and network availability.

Platform implementations are still under testing. iCloud is not an Android source. Windows support is planned, not currently available.
Why MusicX asks for Google Drive access
MusicX uses Google sign-in inside the app. This website does not ask for your Google password, connect to your Drive, or show a sign-in form.
- Read your music: read-only Drive permission lets MusicX list files, read metadata, and play audio in the music folders you select. Google grants this permission for Drive broadly; your MusicX folder selection defines what the app scans.
- Keep MusicX state in sync: app-data permission lets MusicX read and write its own sync documents in Drive's hidden app-data storage.
- Choose items on Android: the Drive picker may also request access to files you use with MusicX.
Connecting a Google account is not the same as selecting a music folder or enabling a shared sync point. Each has a separate purpose. You can review or revoke MusicX access in your Google Account connections.
Google Drive access is still being prepared for public release. Availability during testing may be limited to approved test accounts.
MusicX's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. See the Google data section of our privacy policy for details.
Nearby devices and file transfers
Local device pairing authorizes a connection between MusicX apps. It is separate from a Google or Apple account connection. Nearby discovery uses your local network; wireless transfers need a reachable, authorized destination.
On macOS, supported USB/MTP devices can be used for local music transfers. They do not need a MusicX app or camera to use that wired route. Apple-device transfers currently use the wireless MusicX route.
Optional content services
MusicX uses ShazamKit for music recognition where available. Recognition may send an audio signature to Shazam. Results supplement the app's library information; they do not mean provider content has been embedded into your music files.
LRCLIB is an independent lyrics service, not provided or operated by MusicX. When enabled, song details are sent to LRCLIB to find lyrics. Your audio files are not uploaded for that lookup. MusicX does not control LRCLIB's content or guarantee its accuracy or availability. About LRCLIB.
Keep control of your connections
Manage source connections in MusicX Settings. Before removing a source or deleting downloaded files, read the confirmation carefully: removing downloaded music is different from disconnecting an account. Disconnecting an account also does not necessarily delete data already stored by that provider.
